Possessive adjectives refer to the things or characteristics possessed by a person, an animal or a thing. “His” refers to the things possessed by a male; “her” refers to the things possessed by a female; “its” to the things or characteristics possessed by an animal or an organization. Possessive adjectives do not change when the thing possessed is singular or plural. Possessive pronouns are used to avoid the repetition of the noun (the thing or the characteristic possessed).
